So. Am I the only one who didn't know that there is a whole metaphysical retreat compound designed by Frank Loyd Wright & Son in Joshua Tree? No?

  1. what?! How are we in the dark about this little gem? I'm looking it up now. Nothing beats Joshua Tree in the Fall. One, More, Reason to get out there.

  2. NO, I did NOT know about this. Now I am aching to retreat to Joshua Tree right this minute. Who needs camping when you've got FLW?

  3. Holy wha?!? How can one stay there? Do I have to pretend to be metaphysical?

    What a find...

  4. How strange and wonderful, right?! The crazy kooky thing is that it's the Institute of MENTALphysics. As in meta, but mental. The guy who founded it was a Brit with a proclivity for Tibetan/Chinese philosophy. FLW designed the main space, but I don't think he had anything to do with the construction- his son took over like you said. If I'm not mistaken, FLW disavowed any involvement afterwards because he didn't run the whole project. I used to meet with a drawing group there- it's a totally weird, weird space. DEF go check it out. The chamber of commerce has tried to do away with the cult association and how calls it the Joshua Tree Retreat Center. It's WAY out, ladycakes.

  8. Jamers- I neglected to mention that you can RENT IT, too. Although that might be the scariest bachelorette weekend ever. Stick with itHouse or Rock Reach, methinks;)

  11. This is amazing. Yet another reason I want to take a trip out there. The first being 'Hicksville Trailer Palace'. My friend just got married there and it looks SO awesome!
