Been meaning to get around to this for a while. It was a coincidince that the list gets a significan boost by being postponed. So. Five things I love about my country?

**********************************

1. This Guy. And the fact that we have just elected him as our president.
******************************

2. The Open Road. I'm tempted to call this one something more general like car culture, but I have some very serious love/hate issues goin' on there, so we will leave it at that.
****************************

3. Music. Oh music. These are just a few of my faves. To say nothing of the incredible wealth of the roots of American music that went on to influence so much good shit around the world.

*****************************

4. Ecological Diversity. It's amazing how many cool places we have here.

**************************************

5. Burritos. Especially in California. But really this should be about food in general. Not that ours is *better*, [except for our burritos] but we got it all. Diversity. Yum. Maybe this should include beer to. San Diego style IIPAs? Dangerous.
I'm hungry.
Also, I Tag Rachel, Sexyredframe, and Genevieve. If yall are up for it.
some runner ups that did not make the list: this american life, the *american* office [not necessarily in preference over the british one] buffy the vampire slayer, NPR in general, the daily show [john stewart i love you] portland/sf/new york, california, if i was not so disappointed in you right now you would have been on this list, pop culture over the decades, cowboy culture.............................

A fabulous list! I couldn't agree more with any of these. Some of my happiest memories are road trips taken with my parents when I was little, and with my husband now that I'm big. Southern Utah, the Colorado Rockies, the broad skies of Wyoming and Montana, the woods and beaches of Maine...the list goes on and on!

And like you, right now I'm proud to be an American but frankly ashamed to be a Californian. This state has an international reputation for progressive values and open-mindedness, a reputation that I no longer think we deserve...
